Frequently Asked Questions:

What is the Skate Canada Fee & why do I have to pay it?

  • The Skate Canada Fee for the 2024/2025 year is $60 and is paid annually every September. This fee goes directly to Skate Canada, and covers the cost of insurance for your skater on the ice

My child is 3 years old and has never skated before, what programs do you have available right now?

  • Age 3 and up can register in our CanSkate learn to skate program, we recommend PreCanskate at this age.  Please note we do NOT accept children under the age of 3.

Which rink do your programs run out of?

  • From September - March our programs run out of the Cloverdale Arena.
  • From April-August our programs run out of the Surrey Sport & Leisure Complex.

What type of equipment does my skater need?

  • CanSkate - CSA approved helmet (your skater cannot come on the ice without it), warm clothing, gloves and skates - we recommend skates with visible ankle support and sharp blades (you can find quality used skates at Sports Replay in Langley, look for Jackson, Reidell, Gam, CCM, or Bauer skates for higher quality).
  • STAR Academy/Jr. STARSkate-  skating dress or tights (fitted pants boys), fitted jacket or sweater, gloves and figure skates.
  • STAR Programs - fitted jacket or sweater, leggings or dress/skirt, gloves, and quality skates. All loose shirts must be tucked in and hair must be tied back neatly off the face

My STARskater has started to take tests on the ice, what does this mean?

  • You can find all information about our tests here  TESTING INFORMATION

Where can I pay for a simulation fee or a testing fee?

  • You can pay for these fees through the registration tab underneath the products section  PAY NOW

How is the Club run?

  • The Club is a non-profit Society registered in BC with the BC Societies Act. We have a 100% volunteer Board of Directors who oversee the Club Operations

Why is there a volunteer bond?

  • The Club is powered by volunteers. Without your help, we cannot keep our non-profit running successfully.  We thank you for your assistance in helping us keep kids on the ice.
